2019 Summer of Dreams
This summer I had the honor of helping a friend achieve two of her dreams. She wanted to be able to have her horse trained to ride safely for herself and her children. She wanted the confidence to know how to maintain his training. Once that was achieved, her next dream was to take him out on trail rides. She was able to achieve that many times over. Her and her horse were fun train and willing to learn. It was great!
I also had the privilege to help another client with her horse to teach it to become less spooky and safer to ride. She was fabulous to work with.
I had the moment of the year this summer. I might have had to choke back a tear it was so awesome! Horse people will get it right away. It was a late, warm Alberta evening just before dusk. The air was warm and countryside quiet. The grass in the ditch wasn’t very tall yet as it was still early summer. You could hear the creak of leather, the blowing of nostrils every now and then and the faint land of hooves in the grass. It was a surreal and wonderful moment as a mom and a crazy in love horse person to ride behind my only daughter on her horse. She was just 8 and riding so confidently and in sync with her horse. It was our first longer trail ride together. Yes, she has been riding since she was conceived but this moment was one she had worked for. Her horse keeps her challenged. This is no laid back lazy pony. Here they were in front of me. They were one. Her long hair flipping a little back and forth from under her helmet matching the flick of her horses tail we silently rode back to the farm enjoying each other’s company and loving the freedom that comes with riding our majestic animals.
